What is Epitaph?
We're a zombie apocalypse text MMO set twenty minutes into the future on our very own Planet Earth. Our world is not derived from any particular zombie mythos or theme, but we've incorporated elements from many different sources - World War Z, Left 4 Dead, Romero and 28 Days Later - as well as plenty of our own thoughts and paranoid fantasies. If you like the post apocalypse, and zombies in particular, why not click 'play now' and check us out?
What is A Text MMO?
You know games like Warcraft and Guild Wars? They're a bit like that. However, whereas those games are graphical, a text MMO is played in text. It's like reading a novel rather than watching a movie. Text MMOs tend to have much more literate gamers than other such games, so if you are looking for intelligence and coherence in your fellow players it may well be your cup of tea. You may also be familiar with them under the name Multi user dungeons or MUDs. If you ever played any old style Infocom text adventures or interactive fiction, you should also feel well at home!
How do I log on?
You've got two choices - one is to click 'play now' at the top to play using the web-based client, or you can download a dedicated client such as Mushclient. The latter is much more powerful and featured, and would be the recommended option for most players. Our game address is epitaphonline.co.uk on port 6789. You can download a recommended world file (which makes the game look nicer) here (right click and save as, then open with 'open world' from the file menu in MushClient.
Disclaimer
As a result of the theme of our game, the environment in which you adventure is sometimes almost unbearably unpleasant. Rather than sanitise the game theme, we've chosen to let it all hang out. If you are easily offended, Epitaph is not a game for you. Please, don't even give it a try if you are of a sensitive disposition - the age warning you can see at the bottom left isn't there for chuckles. while we're not developing the thing for shocks, we also take the integrity of the setting seriously.
